October 2006 Archive

10/24 - Well if you have some spare time you should check out my pictures from my field exercise in Korea and the pictures from Okinawa World that I promised a few days ago. I have made buttons so that you don't have to go looking around for them, but there are other links on the web site.

 Korea Pics Oki World

10/22 - Is it bad when your child thinks you look like the devil? Riley on many occasions has said that the bobble head in the picture looks like Daddy. Hmmm? Who knows may it will work to my favor when she is 16.

We went to Okinawa World (theme park) yesterday and visited caves and saw dancers. We have pictures and I will get them uploaded soon. Here are a few pictures to hold you over.

10/9 -  It's official, tomorrow 10/10 we will be on island 7 months. Only 2 years and 5 months to go.   I have to admit, time is starting to go by fast.  Big things have been going on around here.  These are 2 of the pictures we had taken of Riley at the Kadena Air Force Base picture place.  These two images are perfect, Riley can't get enough of books or the telephone.  There is one other picture we brought home but it is too big to scan.

Last weekend Riley and I decided to make an apple pie.  We really slaved hard over it.  Riley added the cold water the the pie crust mix and I opened the can of apple pie filling.  We ended up with a modified apple pie/tart but you best believe we ate it all.  Riley loves to cook.  She gets her "bib" (apron) from the closet and pulls up a chair.  I'm sure you can guess that Santa has been watching and will make sure her passion for cooking continues.

We all knew it would happen eventually, Riley has her own computer.  Don't get too excited it is our old laptop that we stripped down and rebuilt for her games.  We bought an indestructible keyboard for her and a new mouse.  Riley is still learning that her hand makes the mouse move which is the arrow on the screen, but she is getting there.

Yesterday, Sunday 10/8, we had family portraits taken at the beach here on base.  We are anxiously waiting for the online proofs to look at.  Once we get the information we will pass it out for all to view.  It was a beautiful day, the sun was low, the tide was coming in and the turquoise water was perfect. I saw the photographer at the gym this morning and she said they were great.  We will see.

It is starting to cool down here in Japan.  We are still wearing shorts and tank tops but you no longer feel like the heat and humidity will take your breath away when you walk out the door.  I think I could even go as far as saying it gets a little cool in the early morning and late evenings.  The tree in our side yard lost it leaves and when you walk out back you can almost forget you are on a a tropical island.  That is until you are hit in the face with the banana tree leaves and the mosquitoes the size of helicopters take a bite out of you.  Then the reality of Okinawa hits you.

Halloween is just around the corner, Riley is going as a Flower Princess.  Monty will be away for Halloween this year so we are heading to Tomy's (the babysitter) and going to Trick or Treat with her boys.  There will be plenty of pictures to share.  I will be getting yet another years use out of my old stand by costume Raggedy Anne.

We will update again later this week.  Hopefully we won't get too busy or too tired.  Until next time.....have a great day!

 DA BEARS! 5-0

10/4 - Potty lessoned learned! Riley has now gotten to the point where she can go potty on her own and she wants to be alone in the bathroom. Here comes the lessoned learned - when you ask her if she wiped make sure you look before you ask or you might end up with half a roll of toilet paper clogging up the toilet! Also my little "potty clogger" has some new artwork posted, I know it has been a while since her last artwork was posted.

When we asked what Riley drew she told us a "hot air balloon". Hmmm, it really does look like a hot air balloon!

10/1 - Well ladies and gentlemen it is already October! Where has the time gone? I just want to point out some behind the scenes webpage updates that some of you may have noticed already. Check out Samantha's Cake Lady Cakes page and tell us what you think. I have also put a couple of new links under the favorite links. Riley loves to play games on Nick Jr and Samantha is always on the All Recipes page so I thought it was appropriate to share them with everyone. On Monty's Page Riley has replaced a few of her Top Ten Must See Movies. We have also added some pictures to Park Pics under the Pictures Section on the right. If you like adventure than you will love little Miss Riley showing no fear at the park. Don't forget to keep checking back to see what's new with the Quailes Family in Okinawa, Japan. Peace Out (Riley's new phrase).
